Pyrenees + Bordeaux - Cycling or Non Cycling

This offer is available to anyone wanting to see the stages of the Tour de France during the days in the Pyrenees and Bordeaux; it is available for cyclists and non-cyclists alike.


Go where the action is in 2010! The Pyrenees are celebrating 100 years with the Tour de France and from these key locations in La Mongie and Bordeaux , you can see some key action that will no doubt determine the eventual winner in Paris! If you are the independent type, then this is a perfect trip for you! We have offered self guided trips for more than a 15 years throughout France but this program is even more 'bare bones' than our usual self guided programs. Therefore, it is very affordable, yet includes some excellent services with the convenience of excellent lodging that is perfectly positioned to do everything you want!

Day 1: July 21, 2010 arrive on your own at your hotel in La Mongie, just 3km below the Col du Tourmalet. From this location you can see the important stage finish tomorrow just near your hotel. This day is a rest day on Le Tour so a perfect day to arrive and relax. You can take the cable car to the Pic du Midi and have a panorama from the "Top of the Pyrenees"! For those seeking to cycle, we can suggest some rides of varying abilities. Dinner included tonight. (D)

July 22: Tour Finishes on the Tourmalet. From your hotel you can easily walk up to the finish line area. You may want an early start, and be sure to pack a picnic and some beverages! Because of the location, you have lots of time to do as you wish. Same hotel and dinner and the time celebrate! (B,D)

July 23: Travel to Bordeaux. We will take you to the rail station in Lourdes and then you travel on your own to Bordeaux. A charming and affordable 2 star hotel in central Bordeaux awaits. Dinner on your own. If you arrive well in time, and you should, go to central Bordeaux to see the stage finish of the Tour today! (B)

July 24: Time Trial Day. This is where the race will be cast in stone! See all the cyclists you want get ready to go out and throw down their last best effort! Enjoy a final night in Bordeaux on your own. Same hotel !(B)

July 25 - Departure Day! After breakfast you are free to depart on your own.


What's Included

All lodging in superior 3 star and 2 star hotel and rooms, (see below), all breakfasts, 2 dinners - each night according to the itinerary, transfer to Lourdes train station on July 23. Additional arrival transfer from Lourdes to La Mongie possible at the rate of 75 euros/2 persons, must be reserved in advance.

Note: rooms are twin rooms - meaning 2 single beds. These can be pushed together to make a double. Changes to room category will be made when possible. Room categories are usually all the same.

LEVEL:
If you are coming to cycle you should be prepared for challenging mountain climbing on narrow roads.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE:
Toulouse is the nearest airport gateway. From Toulouse trains are available to Lourdes, and trains from Lourdes to Bordeaux. From Bordeaux trains and flights are possible. Car rentals also possible.

Meals: buffet breakfasts and 2 dinners are included. Dinners will be hardy regional meals with multiple courses; wine is not included.

Watching the Tour: you will have to position yourselves to see the race each time you go to watch the Tour but no special access is included in this offer. If some participants wish to add a helicopter flight or other VIP service, please contact us to know what is possible.
