A 5 night self guided tour with bag transfers from Alpe d'Huez to Briancon!

Even better than our 4 night program, this tour offers a few change of hotels and takes you further in the region to ride more cols and see even more! Still self guided, we include bag transfers, you can be sure to climb Croix de Fer, the 'backside'of the Galibier, and the Izoard!

Based in the town of Alpe d'Huez to start, you get the energy of all the cyclists who come here every day! You are on top of it and can conquer it a few different ways! Then, experience part of the Marmotte route with a trip to St Jean en Maurienne, where the Tour de France will pass this year. Then, to Briancon with access to the Izoard and Sestrieres! If you are an experienced and passionate rider, then come climb where legends have passed and been made!

On arrival you get a detailed briefing upon the cycling possibilities, the routes and organization of your cycling holiday. Day 1: Arrival Day Travel from Grenoble to the hotel directly in the town of Alpe d'Huez. Get settled, then we have a welcome meeting, and time for bike setup. An orientation of our program for the duration is covered.. Local bus service is regular to Alpe d'Huez from Grenoble; or we can arrange a private transfer for a supplement of 85 euros/person - based on 2 persons. Dinner included in Alpe d'Huez. (D)

Day 2: Alpe d'Huez !

We will suggest a nice long downhill toward Allemont as a way to get your legs and warm up as you then turn back toward Bourg d'Oisans. You can choose to go straight at Alpe d'Huez now, or we can also suggest some more riding before that to La Berarde and cable car ride with your bike up to Les Deux Alpes, and then attack the 21 switchbacks! Alpe d'Huez is a vertical climb of 1.120m (3.733 feet), 14 km (8.75 miles) long, gradients between 7.7 and 12% and 21 switchbacks is one of the most historical and heroic ones in the history of the Tour de France. Night back in Alpe d'Huez, dinner included. (B,D)

Day 3: L’Alpe d’Huez to St Jean en Maurienne: A big day, you are going to ride approximately half the Marmotte route, but you have a few options. You can descend the same way as yesterday, or take a different way over the Col de la Sarenne and then down to Chambon Dam, Bourg d'Oisans, and then the long road to the Col de Croix de Fer! Following that is the long descent to St Jean en Maurienne where the Tour de France stops this year. Overnight in comfortable 2 star hotel, dinner on your own. (B)

Day 4: Le Col du Galibier and Col du Lautaret: We shouldn't neglect the Col du Telegraph also which starts the first climbing today from St Jean into Valloires. Then the long ride up to the Galibier, after then its all downhill - even over the Lautaret which is below the Galibier on this direction. Descend all the way to Briancon and a charming 3 star hotel, dinner on your own. (B)

Day 5: Le Col d'Izoard: One of the most famous as well as difficult of the Alpine cols, the Izoard is a long climb from Briancon but worth it. You can descend back to Briancon the same way, or by a longer route down and return. We suggest a return by the same route and after if you have the legs you can continue on toward Sestrieres in Italy and back. Last night in Briancon. Dinner on your own. (B)

Day 6: Departure after breakfast – transfer to Grenoble TGV station by bus from Briancon, or we can arrange a private transfer for a supplement. Extra nights are possible if you wish to add on to this program. (B)
