Alpe d'Huez is famous for the Tour de France, but for many French and Europeans it has a well deserved reputation for all things outdoors including the mountain bike! Numerous races and downhill events occur here and the variety of trails in the region allows us to offer a trip that will show you Alpe d'Huez in a totally different way! The town of Alpe d'Huez sits famously at the end of a 21 switchback route that roadies love to ride, but the town itself sits at the foot of numerous peaks that serve as one of many outstanding ski areas in this region. The network of chairlifts and gondolas serve us well too as we can put our bikes on the lifts in many cases to get back up the mountain! Our guides for this trip are professional cycling guides, bilingual, and expert mountain bike riders as well. We include very comfortable lodging and all meals, which in the end comes to a great tour price for a guided mountain bike trip in the Alpes.

Day 1: Arrival Day: We will meet the group in Grenoble train station for a transfer around 2pm to our first hotel in Alpe d'Huez. A very nice 3 star mountain chalet style hotel, we will have lots of space and comfort which is perfect after some great rides! The guide will do an orientation, help with bike set up, and get everyone situated for the days ahead. With time remaining, we can do some short rides to get the the flow! Dinner included tonight. Day 2: Alpe d'Huez We will ride numerous trails around the massive ski area of Alpe d'Huez. Long descents into the lower valley are possible with chair rides for riders and bikes are possible to get back up! 4-5 hours ride time, picnic lunch included. Back at Alpe d'Huez tonight, dinner included. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Alpe d'Huez Trails Another day spent on different trails. We can ride up to near the glaciers and return down below the ski area on the opposite side of the area with a return up by chairlift. 4-5 hours ride time. Back at Alpe d'Huez with dinner tonight. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Les Deux Alpes Ride from Alpe d'Huez to Les Deux Alpes today crossing some fantastic forested routes and one mountain to the other on mostly single track with some dirt roads. Climb up to the ski station of Les Deux Alpes. Different ambiance and hotel tonight, our last night. Overnight Les Deux Alpes with dinner included. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Departure after breakfast – transfer to Grenoble TGV station at 9:30 am. Extra nights are no problem. In Les Deux Alpes it is possible to have glacier skiing, downhill biking, and hiking throughout most of summer. (B)

Duration: 4 nights / 5 days - GUIDED
Dates 2010: June 10-14, June 17-21, August 15-19, & August 21-25; this tour is guided, or can be available upon request for any group of minimum of 4 persons on any date you choose; subject to hotel availability.
Accommodation: 4 nights in very charming 3 star hotels and chalets. Extra nights are possible in Grenoble before and Les Deux Alpes after as well as Paris in either direction. Ask us for rates.
Bike: Bring your own, or we can provide a rental - inquire for bike info & rates.
Tours: The proposed rides have an elevation between 719m (2.397 feet) and 2.556m(8520 feet). The routes are mostly single track but occassionally borrow double track dirt roads. Riding surface is not technically advanced but skill is required and fitness to handle the long rides and elevation.
Trip includes: 4 nights lodging in mostly 3 stars hotels, all dinners as shown in the itinerary, picnic lunches, daily buffet breakfast, arrival and departure transfers and all interim transportation, welcome orientation and drink, road book with maps and cue sheets, luggage handling, 1 professional guide for up to 8 persons and 1 support vehicle, energy bars, drink mix, souvenir Discover France jersey. Tour is priced with minimum of 4 persons. Price goes down with more participants.
